Cobelgal

Cobelgal Lda. is a Portuguese company specialising in commercialisation and R&D activities in  environmental care technologies.

The firm is owned and managed by Mr. Joris De Vos, an agricultural engineer with extensive expertise in technology transfer in numerous developing countries including Brazil, Mongolia, Poland, and Cameroun.

Prior to forming Cobelgal, Mr. De Vos worked for 14 years  for the Belgian consulting company Tractebel (which has 3000 employees, 1800 of which are engineers).  Within Tractebel he assumed the responsibility of Marketing Manager for South America and the Middle East. During his last four years, he was the General Manager of Tractebel's branch active in solar energy and production photo-voltaic cells and systems.

Mr. De Vos has built excellent relations with the European Commssion through various projects in the JOULE, THERMIE, AIR,  and FAIR programs.   Cobelgal was the main contractor of the Bamboo for Europe project.  This project included a work package  on the industrial transformation of bamboo that was  coordinated by  Mr. De Vos.  Cobelgal was also involved in the FAIR project entitled "Optimisation of the production chain for high performance light natural sandwich materials (LNS) as a basis for scaling-up" which dealt with  the use of bamboo in LNS boards.   The first research contract concerning bamboo  co-funded by the European Commission was signed by Cobelgal in 1992.

Cobelgal is actively seeking to valorise the research results of Bamboo for Europe mainly in the field of wastewaters treatment plants based on the "constructed wetlands" technology and using bamboo as a crop.  Several units are operational or under construction.

Mr. De Vos will play a key role in the Bamboo Thematic Network as the project's 'Industrial Coordinator' who will manage all activities of the network relating to the  industrialisation and valorisation of bamboo.

The recent works of Mr. Joris De Vos  include:
